Veterans Benefits for Seniors

Health Related

Mesothelioma:  WW2 (and Korean War) vets, particular those in the Navy, had a high risk of being exposed to asbestos.  30% of patients diagnosed with Mesothelioma have served in the armed forces (suggesting that vets are 3X more likely to contract mesothelioma).  Asbestos related diseases, particularly mesothelioma, have very long latency periods. 30 to 50 years typically elapses between exposure and the onset of symptoms.

Most mesothelioma web sites are sponsored by lawyers.  They are informative but they are ultimately designed to acquire new clients.  A fact sheet from the National Cancer Institute can be found here.  An true information site with no ties to lawyers is The Mesolthelioma Group

Wounded Vets More Likely to Die of Coronary Heart Disease

USF Health in The Villages:  The Univ of South Florida (USF) and The Villages are striving to make The Villages "America's Healthiest Hometown"
